The IPL Governing Council has released new guidelines on the retention rules for the upcoming 2025 mega-auction. A significant point of interest, especially for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans, is how these rules might impact MS Dhoni’s potential retention with the team, should he choose to participate in the next season.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have received a significant advantage under the new retention rules, allowing them to retain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player. According to the updated mandate, Indian players who have not participated in international cricket for the past five calendar years can be retained under uncapped status, making Dhoni eligible for this provision.

MS Dhoni’s last appearance for the Indian national team came in the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal against New Zealand, a match that ended in heartbreak for India with a narrow loss.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans will be pleased to learn that retaining MS Dhoni won’t face any price-related hurdles under the new rules. However, his participation in the upcoming season remains uncertain due to ongoing concerns about his knee condition.

As MS Dhoni approaches the final chapter of his cricketing career, he has transitioned into a role as a power-hitter in the death overs, elevating his finishing skills to new heights. With Ruturaj Gaikwad taking over the leadership duties at CSK, Dhoni will aim to conclude his IPL journey on a high note—it’s now a question of when the Indian cricket legend will bid farewell.
