Tendulkar praised Dhawan's flamboyant style and expressed sadness over not seeing it on the field anymore. Karthik fondly recalled their Under-19 days together and commended Dhawan for his impressive career. Dhawan announced his retirement from both international and domestic cricket through a video message posted on Instagram.

“The cricket field will surely miss your flamboyance, Shikhar Dhawan. Your smile, your style, and your love for the game have always been infectious. As you turn the page on your cricketing career, know that your legacy is forever etched in the hearts of fans and teammates alike. Wishing you nothing but the best in whatever comes next. Keep smiling, Shikhar!,” Sachin wrote on his X post for Shikhar.

The last time Shikhar Dhawan represented India was in the ODI series against Bangladesh in December 2022, before losing his spot to Shubman Gill. This Delhi-born cricketer made his first international appearance for India in an ODI against Australia at Visakhapatnam, though his career had a very shaky start with him being dismissed for a two-ball duck.

Although his career started sourly, Shikhar Dhawan made a great comeback into the Indian team in 2013. He then cemented his place in all forms of the game with great performances. Debuted in 2010, Dhawan retires with an impressive record of 24 centuries—17 in ODIs and 7 in Tests—accrued from 269 international matches.
